A FIT GAL'S FIRST YES.FIT VIRTUAL RACE REVIEW
THE BACKSTORY
March 2020 it all began. The stay-at-home order, the quarantine, the closing of all hikes and gyms! It shouldn’t come as any surprise that as a fitness enthusiast I had to find someway to make working out interesting and exciting during such a weird time! I have ran races in the past but I had never ran a virtual race before. In fact, I had heard of virtual races and always thought the idea of them was kind of lame. Well…take my advice… you never know until you try! I signed up for my first virtual race on April 8th and by April 23 I had completed all 26.7 miles of the Beauty and The Beast themed virtual race took part in!
THE APP
I signed up for my first virtual race using the app Yes.Fit. My brother, some friends, and myself decided to all sign up for the Beauty and The Beast race to help keep each other motivated and hold each other accountable during the quarantine. The app allows for you and your friends to access a leaderboard where you can track each other’s progress throughout the race which is super cool! There are various apps/trackers you can link to the Yes.Fit app that will automatically upload your progress to the leadership board after each run you go on. I personally used MapMyWalk by Under Armour because I like to save my routes after all my runs! If you aren’t feeling so tech savvy there is also an option to manually type your miles in on the Yes.Fit app. YesFit offers all kinds of races with different themes as well as different mileage so there is something for everyone! THE RACE
The Beauty and the Beast race we signed up for was 26.7 miles which is basically a marathon (26.2 miles). It took me about 2 weeks to complete! I have to say, taking part in this race helped keep me super motivated! I did all of my running outdoors and aimed to run at least 2 miles everyday. I wanted to really make sure that I ran the entire race so anytime I took walking breaks I did pause my MapMyWalk App so that it didn’t account for distance when I was walking. It felt so amazing when I finished the race and the incentive to finish was really what I was looking forward to! So what exactly did I get for finishing the race?
THE REWARDS
Aside from being super proud of myself and feeling extremely accomplished after I finished my race, I also received a fun, cute medal in the mail to add to my collection of race medals. When you sign up for the race you get to choose what prize you want to receive upon completing the race! There are medals and t-shirts to choose from! Receiving a medal at the end of the virtual race just like you would at a real-life race really pushed me to finish! I knew if I didn’t finish the race I wouldn’t receive my Beauty and the Beast medal (and Beauty and the Beast is my ALL TIME favorite Disney Movie!). In addition to the medal I was feeling fierce and looking fit! See my transformation photo below! I will definitely be participating in more races in the future! I hope you do too and get your family and friends on board!
